A well designed Safe Ride system has a strong route structure, frequent service, and reasonable operating policies to protect employees as well as the traveling public. Careful design of bus stops, staffing levels, training for the unusual events of this type of service, and equipment on the bus are critical for a successful service. Bob developed the first Moonlight Express service in Ames in 1985 and modified the service to meet changing late night travel patterns. He has also assisted other transit systems with their late night service to develop safe, effective, and cost efficient services.
Whether individual, taxi type service, or fixed route buses are desired, Bob will assist students and the transit system in developing a safe ride program that meets the university and community needs for safe late evening service.
